When a door closes, it sometimes swings wide open to a better opportunity. That was the case for Paul Wilson, Andy Weir, and Dottie Depfer back in 2002. The three co-workers suddenly found themselves at a crossroads when their longtime employer, a commercial plumbing company, shuttered its doors after more than 50 years in business. Instead of scattering to new jobs, the trio decided to take their 30+ years of experience in commercial plumbing, HVAC, new construction, and emergency services and build something of their own. And just like that, Superior Mechanical Services was born.

Heat pumps have come a long way over the past 15 years. During the winter months, a heat pump may require additional help to maintain the desired temperature in your home. One way a heat pump achieves this is with an electric heat pack inside the air handler. When the temperature outside your house drops, your heat pump will bring on your electric heat to assist in heating your home. When this occurs you will see a red light or AUX on your thermostat, showing you that the heat pump is working.
